It seems quite likely that if M helped recover The Scream in 1994, then he would have an inside track to steal it in 2004. (If, indeed, he didn't steal in in 1994 as well.)
There are 8 consistent answers to this puzzle.

This one was incredibly quick. I would suggest it is “green” rather than “yellow”, as it requires simple deduction rather than specific or specialized knowledge. And in a book like this, bold letters are a dead giveaway as to how the response should be formed.

I agree! I was able to get the answer
by working backward from the last set, but I think there is a wonderful book plot in what you've suggested.

Not sure I agree with some of the logical inferences in the "proper" solution: who's to say M could not have both stolen and also helped to recover _The Scream_? He is an enigmatic figure. But this one was both flexible and short enough to muddle through to an answer regardless.

I guessed the answer by going through words that could have made sense, and got lucky on my first try. I’ll try to solve it for real now

I think you can do it with logic. I was initially trying to find some inconsistency with all of them (or incorrect history) , rather than just starting with one
It's a pretty neat concept and I'm pleased with this one.

You can do this with simple logic, or by actually reading and cross-referencing the book as a whole in "words words words" M writes that they helped translate japanese-north korean messages. I only know that one for sure, but I'd bet all the true statements are mentioned in the book somewhere.
I just solved it with logic, though.

Clever answer, M. At first I thought it was "Still I," which would not have been surprising givenyour self-confidence, M

I am disappointed in myself. I got the answer but didn't register that it meant the beer Stella and not the Latin word for star or a feminine name. After I tried many different "Stella" solutions, I moved on to another solution. Curse your sly mind, M!

There should be a means on the site to grade oneself an F. I missed this one, and I am so thoroughly disappointed with myself.
