The solution is a classic M answer in that it has a double-meaning that fits both the narrative and the puzzle. The solution is at the same time two separate currencies (look at what money M drops) and also sounds a lot like a word which would make sense when asking a spy "Who are You?" I assume the addition of disappears into the night is simply M being dramatic and enjoying his clever response.

If you got stuck on this one, here's a few hints for the remainder of the book:

1. If you ever get a whole number in a puzzle, convert it to the corresponding letter in the alphabet to see if that yields anything meaningful.

2. If you ever see the word "key" in the introductory text to a puzzle, note the word following "key" - you'll be dealing with a cipher and will need that word (or phrase) to decode it.

3. If you see a spelling error, it's deliberate.

I have converted the money. Need help on what to do with those values

I may be wrong, but I think it serves a purpose similar to stage directions in a play. What does anyone else think?

I was able to solve this one without the second page, simply by reading the narrative and looking up the names of Uzbekistani and Korean currency. It's what he saw.

I was able to determine all of the currencies and do the conversions to numbers and then letters, but the six resulting letters didn't spell anything meaningful. I eventually just used those letters as the solution, but I don't understand the apparent hint that accompanied the message saying that my solution is correct: Disappears into the night.. Please explain?

Using Google Image search, I was able to find each image, though the one you mentioned proved to be the most difficult to find, if I recall correctly.

I had the same problem with the currency on the right side of the middle row. I figured out what the currency probably was, but could find no images that matched that in the puzzle. However, some of the images had words that matched those in the book

The currency on the right side of the middle row is CHF. I determined that by process of elimination and because it produces a reasonable answer. When I Google image search for that country's currency it doesn't look like that.

I would have enjoyed this puzzle more if the pictures of the money were larger and more readable.
